The San Bernardino National Forest offers a broad choice of hiking and walking trails near Crestline, affording nature lovers the opportunity to enjoy nature’s beauty year-round.

EASY TRAILS

Dogwood Campground Loop

An easy 3.8-mile loop trail near Rimforest surrounding the Dogwood Campground. Generally takes an average of 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete. Popular trail for hiking, walking and trail running. Open year-round. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Heaps Peak Arboretum Trail 3W05

Seven-tenths of a mile; easy walk. It begins 2 miles east of Sky Forest on Hwy. 18.

Heart Rock / Seeley Creek Trail 4W07

Generally considered a moderately easy walk, it takes about 40 minutes starting on a paved road which becomes a dirt trail that can be rocky. The trail follows a creek with flowing water and some small waterfalls, plus a 10 – 15 foot waterfall near Heart Rock in the spring. A popular year-round trail, access using FS Road 2N03. Dirt parking off SH-138 south of the Camp Seely entrance.

Indian Rock Trail 3W15

One-half mile; easy walk. It begins at the Rock Camp Fire Station on Hwy. 173.

Lake Gregory Circuit

This 2.3-mile loop trail around Lake Gregory is considered an easy route, it takes an average of 50 min to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, fishing, and hiking, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

National Children’s Forest Interpretive Trail

Three-quarter mile; easy, paved, handicap access/strollers OK, altitude 7,400. Beautiful mountain views, picnic area, great family hike for the little ones. Trail and trail signs designed by kids! Off Keller Peak Rd., 4 miles from Hwy 18. Closed in winter.

Trail Of The Phoenix 2W09

One-half mile; easy walk. It begins at the entrance of the Children’s Forest on Keller Peak Road.

Tunnel II Trail 3W19

One mile; easy trail. It begins at FS Road 2N34. Take Grass Valley Road to Clubhouse. Follow Clubhouse to Fairway. Continue on Fairway turning right on Brentwood. Turn left on Sonoma to 2N34. Go left on 2N34, follow to the trailhead.

Will Abell Memorial Trail

At just under two miles long, the forested Will Abell Memorial Trail is an easy stroll at 390 Grass Valley Rd. in Lake Arrowhead. Parking is fairly accessible near the large rock sculpture at the trailhead. 

MODERATE TRAILS

Castle Rock Trail

.8 mile; moderate to difficult. Access from Highway 18, about one mile east of the Big Bear lake Dam. Rich in scenery.

Fisherman’s Camp Trail 2W07

2.5 miles; moderately difficult. It begins 1.3 miles west of Crab Flats campground on FS Road 3N34 and ends at Deep Creek.

North Shore Recreation Trail 3W12

1.7 miles; moderately difficult. It begins at North Shore campground on Hospital Road in Lake Arrowhead.

DIFFICULT TRAILS

Camp Creek National Recreation Trail

3.6 miles; difficult. This trail begins approximately one mile east of Snow Valley Ski Resort and terminates at Bear Creek.  It is a very steep trail with an elevation change of 2,000 feet 

Glory Ridge Trail

1 mile; very difficult. This old fisherman’s trail begins at the end of Forest Service Road 2N15 and goes to Bear Creek. Very steep.

Hot Springs Trail 3W02

1.5 Miles; difficult. It begins one mile south of Bowen Ranch near Hesperia.

Little Green Valley Trail 2W10

1.5 miles; difficult. It begins on Hwy. 18, across from Snow Valley.

Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail PC2000

39 miles; May be accessed from various points in the district.

Pinnacles Trail 3W16

3.5 miles; difficult. It begins at the entrance to the Rifle Range on Hwy. 173, north of Rock Camp. Very steep.
